Poetry in films Proposal to make ancient modern Tamil poems as metaphoric films Tamil poetry has been time immemorial that Tamils have been composing verses with dash and incomparable enthusiasm blended with aesthetics unmatched brought on forth through their life and spirit. Ancient Tamil poetry has been space and time bound and are known as thinai and thurai. They are thematic as well on these landscapes. This is the uniqueness of Tamil poetry. However we cannot compare modern Tamil verse as that of a kind of thinai thurai as it depends on the modern landscape and mostly such poems are subtler for their modern thought brought on forth by the industrialization and alienation of the modern life and the subtlety has something to do with the sub conscious levels of the composer of the poems. Mostly influenced by poems of Europe and haiku in Japan modern verse in Tamil has been fantastic in form and content. It has given birth to …starting with Bharathi himself as s composer of modern verse in the name of free verse , prosaic poetry we have many smarts like sivaramu, vaanambadi poetry and pichamoorthy as well as many others like brammarajan or athmaanaam etc. Tami film, of late has been innovative and creative, charged with much energy it revolves on the modern themes ,subaltern levels and impure aesthetics yet brilliant portrayals has come a long way and still needs to tread on a track miles to go ahead. Blending both the art. Blending and conglomerating both these fine forms can produce celluloid poetics that can be new and enlightening. A celluloid poem is strongly visual, photographed on subtler landscape and delivered with a BG score both of the human voice and instrumental composition.NGO S that are much avowed are nowadays doing a fine job of such production blending poetry with film making. These in turn can be time bound, say bringing up more than 30 poems together in a 90 minutes version of a film finely integrated with melodiously composed music. That would make poetry reading interesting. This can be called visual poetry .poetry nowadays has been a dying art due to the over exposure of visual media. Visual media is costlier as well as make the minds sick about watching along with visual impairment. When imbibed with poems this may change the behavioral pattern of the mind and hence can be a welcome model in due course. Poems of choice What kinds of poems can be chosen? Tamil is full of millions of wonderfully composed poems and making a choice is not an easy task; but here we can make choice showing at least one sample standing out for one trend can be made and therefore a 90 minutes film can be made with 25 good verses or 30-35 poems can be made into a 120 minutes film. The DVD can be fixed with a prize and royalty can be delivered to each and every poet with a copy write. Film makers and producer will enjoy the particular percentile share of the royalty through its share. Poets Poems as ;puranaanooru and kalithogai- kurunthogai kuravanchi and kural are of good choice but would be in limited number. Modern poets under the choice are sirpi,sivaramu,kalapriya,subrabharathimanian,brammarajan,theepaselvan,cheran,manushya buthiran ,naanjil nadan ,malathi maithri,RBalakrishnan are some selections…need to be scrutinized.
